Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
